News / True Friendship
We are better together! God never intended for us to live this life of faith alone. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 explains, “Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he has no one to help him up.” We need each other. It is never wise to be a Lone Ranger! Christi and I are so grateful for the faith-filled friends He has given us through the years. We recognize that we need their help: their loving support, encouragement and wise counsel.
True friends give you GODLY COUNSEL (Ps. 1:1) based on the Word of God, not just intellectual opinion. Proverbs 27:9 says, “Oil and perfume rejoice the heart; so does the sweetness of a friend's counsel that comes from the heart.”
True friends will tell you The TRUTH (The Word of God) even if it hurts your feelings! Proverbs 27:17 “As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.” True friends sharpen each other, which means we challenge each other to come up higher! We hold each other accountable to the Word. There is no such thing as “Speak your truth” or “Own your truth,” Truth is NOT relative. True friends tell each other THE TRUTH!
True friends are LOYAL. Proverbs 27:10 says, “Never abandon a friend.” Proverbs 17:17 confirms, “A friend loves at ALL times and is born, as is a brother, for adversity.” The NLT version says, “A friend is always loyal.” A true friend remains loyal by not walking away when times are adverse or hard. True Love is NOT a feeling. LOVE IS A COMMITMENT. God IS LOVE!
True friends PREFER one another. John 15:13 “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” A true friend will lay down their desires and dreams to help a friend in need. This is COVENANT love.
True friends are FAITHFUL to their covenant with God and each other. God is a COVENANT God. Proverbs 20:6 says, “Many claim to have unfailing love, but a faithful person who can find?” The Word says it is RARE to find a truly faithful person. This is so true in our culture today! Faithfulness is not valued because “Self” has been elevated to first place- “Do whatever feels right.” “You deserve it.” For example, ninety-three million selfies are posted each day on IG! This obsession with self is in direct opposition to God’s character of faithfulness.
True friends KEEP THEIR WORD. Psalm 15:1, 4 says, “Who may worship in your sanctuary, Lord? Who may enter your presence…those who HONOR the faithful followers of the Lord, and keep their promises even when it hurts.” A faithful friend keeps his/her word even when there is sacrifice required. James 5:12 confirms this saying, “But above all [things], my brethren, do not swear…but let your yes be yes, and your no be no, so that you may not sin and fall under condemnation.” Let’s CHOOSE to be true friends NOT defined by current culture but by God’s Word. Let’s decide to be encouragers and covenant keepers who challenge each other to come up higher in LOVE. If you need godly friends, we encourage you to believe God for His best for “He who walks with the wise will himself become wise.” (Prov. 13:20) And then just “Be friendly.”
As you faithfully give your generous seed this month, be excited knowing that when you choose to be faithful to God and His Word Proverbs 28:20 says, “A faithful man/woman will ABOUND with BLESSINGS!” Get ready, this is your year of ABUNDANT HARVEST!!
We Love you,
Mylon & Christi
