“When He ascended on high, He gave GIFTS to men…And He gave some to be APOSTLES, some PROPHETS, some EVANGELISTS, and somePASTORS and TEACHERS…” Ephesians 4:8 & 11
Christi and I are very thankful to have ministry gifts in our life and to be called by Jesus to follow Him in being “fishers of men.” Although the responsibilities of answering the call of God are extremely humbling and challenging at times, we count it a tremendous HONOR from the Lord to be anointed to “GO into all the world and teach and preach and make disciples.” Ephesians 4:12-13 explains God’s PURPOSE for HIS ministry gifts: “For the equipping of the saints for the WORK of MINISTRY, For the EDIFYING of the body of Christ, till we ALL cometo the UNITY of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, To a PERFECT (mature) man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; that we should no longer be children… but speaking theTRUTH in LOVE, may GROW UP in ALL things into Him who is the head—Christ—”
One part of our job as ministers is to give people the tools they need from God’s Word to “be a blessing” and encourage them to fulfill their destiny. According to the passage above, the ONLY way each of us GROW UP is to consistently receive The Word from a ministry gift. It doesn’t matter if we think our pastor is as smart as we are. They are ANOINTED. Because of the anointing for that gift, they will receive discernment and clarity on issues we are dealing with.
Second Timothy 4:1-2 explains what the ministry gifts role in our lives should be: “Preach the Word! Keep your sense of urgency…[you aspreacher of the Word are to show people in what way their lives are WRONG.] And convince them, rebuking and correcting, warning and urging and encouraging them, being inexhaustible in patience and TEACHING.” Did you notice only ONE part of those instructions was encouragement? The rest of what the ministry gifts are anointed by God to do is what none of us really enjoy: CORRECTION! We need to honestly ask ourselves, “Who in the five fold ministry, those in spiritual authority, can tell us NO? Who in our life has what I call the ‘No Vote?’”
In order for the ministry gifts to help us, we must ALLOW THEM to speak into our lives. I cannot overemphasize this: The measure ofPLACE (spiritual authority) we give them, determines how much we grow! And how much we grow determines how much God can trust us! Twenty-four years ago, I left everything in Georgia and moved to Texas to learn how to LIVE by faith and receive the Word from Kenneth Copeland who is a prophet/teacher and our pastors, George and Terri Pearsons. Christi and I did not marry until we met with those who have spiritual authority in our lives and asked for and SUBMITTED to their wise counsel. In every major decision, we have asked for & submitted to the counsel of those God has placed in our lives as spiritual authority.
It is vitally important to find our God ordained place in the kingdom- The RIGHT church, the RIGHT pastor, etc. We don’t attend a church because our job brought us there or because our kids like the youth group. We ask the Lord where HE wants us planted? Because we won’t submit if we have any doubt that God chose them for us. But when we CHOOSE to HONOR the gifts that God places in our lives then we are HONORING GOD. For He is the ONE who commanded us in First Timothy 5:17: “The elders who rule well are to be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching.” And when we honor God, He said “I will honor you.”
Another way we honor God is through our giving. (Prov. 3:9) Your giving is making a difference for JESUS! We are so very grateful to report to you that we are DAILY receiving reports of lives being saved, transformed and delivered through our worldwide TV ministry “On the Road to Freedom.” Thank you for your precious seed sown to advance the kingdom of God in the earth! We are praying over your seed that you are always in the RIGHT place at the RIGHT TIME – at the right church – with the right pastor receiving the “right word at the right moment! How GOOD it is!” (Prov. 15:23)
