January Love E-Letter 2019

 THE SABBATH REST

“And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work…Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work.”  Genesis 2:2-3

Happy New Year! This is absolutely one of our favorite times of the year because it represents a NEW SEASON. As Christi and I were praying for you, we were led to encourage you that right now, at the FIRST of this year, it is vital that you take time to enter HIS REST. In order to receive the direction of The Lord for 2019, we won’t be able to hear His “still, small voice” (I Kings 19:12) clearly if we are consumed with chaos. It is only in a position of rest that we HEAR GOD. Christi and I have to CHOOSE to stop the chaos and intentionally INVEST IN REST. But here’s the amazing REWARD: I’ve never had to change a decision I made, when I made it at rest. Because that’s when we hear God best!

A few years ago, we had the awesome privilege of ministering at King of Kings in Jerusalem with Pastors Wayne and Ann Hilsden. We observed the Shabbat (Sabbath day) and it was life changing for us! The whole city shuts down: every business, even TV. The entire 24 hours is consecrated to HONORING The Lord through rest, worship and family time. They strictly obey God’s command in Leviticus 19:3 to “…keep My Sabbaths holy. I the Lord am your God.” We were so blessed by their dedication, we both repented for not being more observant to keep the Sabbath holy. We committed that day to fiercely protect the Sabbath and invest one day each week to allow the Lord to restore our souls. We continue to be amazed at how blessed the rest of the week is when we sow that one day to Him.

Now I understand that we are no longer under the law but under GRACE. But entering His rest is also discussed in the New Covenant. Hebrews 3:19 says, “So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.” Hebrews 4:3 says, “For we who have believed do enter that rest..” Hebrews 4:9-11 continues, “There remains therefore a REST for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has CEASED from his WORKS as God did from His. Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest.” Wow! Do you see it? The real reason for choosing not to rest is unbelief. This means we don’t trust that if we take times of rest, God will handle it. We have chosen instead to rely on our natural efforts to meet our needs.

If you’ve been a workaholic like me and Christi, it takes more faith to do nothing than to try to complete your list of things “TO DO.” In Jesus time, they had the same issue. They came to Him in John 6:28-29 and asked, “What shall we do, that we may WORK the works of God?” Jesus answered, “This is the work of God, that you BELIEVE in Him whom He sent.” Anytime we depend on our natural efforts to get our breakthrough, it is works. For example, thinking that if we fast and pray more or attend more church services, THEN God will do what we want. But Jesus clarifies that our only work is to believe. We trust God that He is doing the work! I remember when the Lord spoke to me about only going where He sends me and giving my body more time to rest at home between travels. By the Holy Spirit’s direction, we reduced our meetings by half and that year our income doubled! Obedience is better than sacrifice!

Please let me clarify that I am NOT encouraging laziness! The Word of God is full of warnings to those who live passive, lazy lives not fulfilling His will. But what Christi and I have learned to do is this: When it’s time to go back to work, then we work from a position of REST. As we work, we trust that He is anointing our efforts, leading us by His Spirit and making a way for His perfect plan to be accomplished. We rest knowing that as we decree His Word each day over our lives, His POWER backs His Word! That’s rest. That’s faith.        Be encouraged that when you give at the FIRST of this year to help us reach the nations, you are starting the year off right! Your obedience is producing abundance for you. As you rest in God’s promises of increase, your seed is working!!

       Resting in The Lord.

       We Love You,

       Mylon & Christi
