HOW TO REMAIN AT REST
Merry Christmas! It’s the most wonderful time of the year! But for many of us this holiday season is also one of the craziest times of the year. Last month we discussed the importance of entering into God’s rest but with all of the festive preparations, it’s important that we don’t let go of the rest that we have entered into! You may be thinking,
Is it possible to remain at rest during all the “hustle and bustle” of the season?
Yes! Rest only comes from absolute trust in God’s power not our ability or works! As long as we keep trying to “fix it”, we will never be at rest. Hebrews 4:9-10 explains, “There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.” The Amplified version says when we enter the rest we have “ceased from the weariness and pain of human labor.” WooHoo, I’ll take it! How about you?
In fact, the only effort and labor we are instructed to do, is to REMAIN at rest!! Hebrews 4:11 teaches, “Let us therefore be zealous and exert ourselves and strive diligently to enter that rest [of God, to know and experience it for ourselves]…” It will require discipline to learn and experience for ourselves the true Sabbath rest of God when we are surrounded by chaos. But Praise God, He gives us the steps for remaining at rest. It begins in Hebrews 4:12: “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” NKJV
Did you notice we go from striving to enter the rest in verse 11 directly into the power of the spoken word of God in verse 12? This is how you enter the rest and stay at rest- keep speaking The Word and His promises over your life! The Word is always effective! This is why we can rest: we LET THE WORD DO THE WORK!
Once we declare The Word by faith, Hebrews 4:14 reminds us that because Jesus is our High Priest, “…let us hold fast to our confession.” Our part: is to keep speaking His Word, not our concerns, worries or fears. We encourage you to continue to hold fast to the Word because The Word is working! Maybe you are thinking that because of your circumstances, this is just too hard. But Jesus understands. Verse 15 explains that He has sympathy and compassion for us, for He “has been tempted in every respect as we are, yet without sinning.” Jesus is FOR us! He is interceding on our behalf at the right hand of The Father. (Romans 8:34) Therefore, verse 16 says that when we need help, “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” We need to be bold in receiving God’s grace to help us in time of need!
Between November’s letter and this month’s letter, we recognize a step-by-step process from God of how to enter His rest and remain at rest: 1) Everyday have ears to hear. 2) Do not harden your heart. 3) Choose absolute trust 4) By joining your faith with the Word you hear. 5) His Word will do the work when you speak the Word 6) Because Jesus is the High Priest of our confession- So hold fast! 7) If you need help, draw near to the throne of Grace!
We are determined more than ever to enter God’s rest. We are currently fasting, praying and persevering to enter in. As our partner, we are praying for you the same. Be encouraged that when you are a giver, one of the areas you can assuredly remain at rest, is in your finances. Be bold in declaring God’s promises of abundance over your seed. The Word is working! Please know we thank God for the precious gift you are to our lives. We pray you have the most restful and peaceful Christmas yet!
We Truly Love You,
Mylon & Christi
