A Friend of God 🙂

Dear Partner,

“A friend loves at all times, and is born, as is a brother, for adversity.”  Proverbs 17:17 AMPC

In January, we had a beautiful dinner for Christi to celebrate a special milestone birthday. The meal was one of the finest we’ve ever had and the joy filled laughter with friends was momentous. But what we cherished most was the love of God on display through every faith filled friendship. Relationships are our most valuable gift in life: our relationship with Jesus and with each other. Therefore, the times we share together in His presence are the most precious. Proverbs 20:6 says that many claim to be loyal friends but a truly faithful friend is rare. But that night we were looking at a room filled with covenant people who understood what being faithful means. They had proven their commitment to The Lord and to us by sacrificing their time, energy and money in countless times of need, in times of adversity. We THANK YOU for your generous giving and faithful prayer through the years that continually enables us to tell the world how much Jesus loves them.

Please understand that true love will always require sacrifice. It’s only when “showing up” is really inconvenient that we prove our commitment. Anyone can be committed when nothing is required. Galatians 5:13 AMPC explains, “For you, brethren, were called to freedom; only [do not let your] freedom be…an opportunity or excuse [for selfishness], but through love you should serve one another.”

Romans 12:10 AMPC teaches us that loving each other in the family of God means we are “…giving precedence and showing honor to one another.” In order to prefer one another, we must set aside our individual needs and CHOOSE to be a blessing. In our self-absorbed, “selfie” culture of today, these instructions go against the world’s motto, “It’s all about me.” But King Jesus said in Matthew 16:24 NKJV, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.” Denying our own interests to obey God is not easy on the flesh but has great reward!

In John 15:12-14 NKJV Jesus gave us specific instructions saying,

  • “This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.
  • Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.
  • You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.”

Wow! Who wants to be a friend of God? This passage contains step by step instructions. The commandment that fulfills ALL of the law is Jesus first instruction: Love each other. Then Jesus further explains that God’s love in us will lay down its own pursuits to be a faithful friend. Then when we DO what He commands - LOVE each other by laying down our life – here’s the great reward: We become friends of God!

Let’s make a fresh commitment to cultivate God’s love by being there in times of need for those God has put in our life. Declare with us, “I commit to love my brothers and sisters in Christ. I will lay down my own interests and pursuits to be a faithful friend in times of need. Because I live according to the law of love, I am a friend of God, Hallelujah!”

We’d love the opportunity to share the love of God with you at one of our 2022 meetings. Check out our itinerary at www.mylon.org. As you sow your holy seed this month, be encouraged by Psalms 37:25 NIV: “I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.” Because you give, you have a covenant with Almighty God. We agree and rejoice with you for the glorious testimony that is unfolding- ALL of your needs met according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus! (Philippians 4:19)

We sure do love you!

Mylon and Christi
